Belgian Malinois Shepherd Protection Dog
Belgian Malinois The Perfect Protection Dog
This breed is instinctively protective making the Belgian Malinois or Belgium Shepherd a fantastic protection dog. They are strong, very intelligent, fearless, confident, hard-working and fast. This loyal breed wants to learn, please and protect but at the same time is a loving family companion.
The Malinois look like a smaller German Shepherd and can be mistaken for one at times. The breed is very different in character to an Alsation.
The size of a Malinois is 22 to 24 inches for a female and 24 to 26 inches for a male.
Belgian Malinois are hard-working dogs, bred originally to protect farming livestock. Give a task to a Mali and they will thrive to learn and do it to the best of their ability.
They have so much energy and never appear to stop.
How to nurture a Belgian Malinois
The Belgian Malinois is a popular dog in the protection world and this is for more reasons than its personality, it is generally a healthy breed but we ensure all our dogs are checked for health conditions such as hip and elbow dysplasia and certain eye problems.
The short coat is waterproof making it quite easy to take care of with an occasional brush with a medium bristle brush. Malinois do shed normally twice a year and when needed it is recommended to complete a daily once-over with a brush to help remove any loose hair.
Like most dogs, boredom will affect a Malinois and it is important to keep them learning commands and the harder the better as they love a challenge.
Belgian Malinois a great exercise companion
Malinois love to exercise and make great running, hiking and biking companions and they are at their happiest when active.
When they are taking part in the training they do not stop when it comes to focus and concentration and you can see from the video their intelligence and understanding of commands.
